I’m writing this the night before Election Day. I may write again after the results. I’m not sure.
I think Election Day is like a bad one-night stand. All kinds of promises; we’ll love you, take care of you, feed you, pay your bills, anything, just trust me and give me what I want. What I need, give me that vote. You give ‘em the vote. The next day you won’t hear from them.
Everyone is talking a blue wave. I have my doubts. History has shown many people, particularly white women voters, say one thing but when that curtain closes, they are all about the red. They fear Mexican transgender teachers or Muslims banning Christmas sales or little Black kids playing soccer better than their kid. Fear is a powerful motivator.
Then there’s the rural white voter. My God I am tired of the rural white voter. Vote against their own interests on every issue, education, inflation, health care, Medicare. You name it, they’ll vote against it.
Socialism. Communism whatever “ism” they read about on Truth Social. They then vote for the party that subsidizes billionaires and corporate interests that destroy their lifestyle.
I have a friend who grew up in these circumstances. She’s explained to me about many women and children trapped in these situations. Okay, let’s get them some Snap benefits so they can eat and education so they can move up the socioeconomic ladder. I’m good with helping them but I am tired of poor angry rural white men whining.
Ok, so say I’m wrong, Lord knows I hope I am, and there’s a blue wave. The Democrats get the House and the Senate, that would be awesome. If they win, will they use that power?
Let me list the things Democrats would never do that need to be done.
First, stop White House spending. No White House projects. No more no bid contracts and rescind any that exist. Stop trump by stopping the money like back when McConnell republicans did everything they could to stop Obama. Dems should use that playbook and return the favor.
Clean up the Supreme Court. Expand the court to at least 15 justices so that if one dies the whole court doesn’t shift and women, Black, and brown people in America don’t lose their rights as the court tries to take us back to the 1800s.
Investigate and eliminate justices. Form a department, “Big Bad Supreme Police” should work. You know the republicans like childish names. This group would investigate every justice and if they accepted any money or gifts from anyone with business in front of the court, that justice is removed. Same applies to their wife or any family member accepting bribes. The court must once again be above reproach. The justice department needs to answer to Congress not the president. Any congressperson guilty of insider trading, gone. Any ICE or law enforcement agent on video beating or shooting civilians gets prosecuted. Fines and lawsuits are paid from pension funds not taxpayers’ money. Law enforcement simply can’t wear masks.
Yeah, I’m dreaming but I’m on a roll here. The president can no longer appoint family members, and any government department head has to have experience in the field they supervise. You know, the standard used by every other business. No corporation or corner store would have RFK running health or Hegseth running the military.
Starlink has to be nationalized. No one person, least of all a racist nazi, should have the power to control internet access for millions of people.
These are my dreams for democratic power. I’ll settle for no more angry letters.
